Catalonia is and has been in its history a meeting point for different cultures, its people being characterized by their openess to the outside world.
This clear international vocation as well as its high index of human development, has meant that Catalonia has always been involved with the development of the poorest countries, with human rights defence and the right to self determination, peace building well as humanitarian action in emergency situations or longer time crisis.
The Catalan civil society is strongly involved with the most disadvantaged countries or with the ones that accidentally face big catastrophes and emergencies. Catalan citizens are aware of the north - south reality. They believe firmly that it is possible to have a change of mentalities, attitudes and trade habits to act in a more responsible way and to influence the necessary political, economic and social changes to make another world possible.
The project 3interCAT was born in this framework, with the general objective to provide the adequate tools to the catalan organizations to reach the international level and to establish links and synergies with their international counterparts.
To establish a steady communication between citizens, volunteer organizations and public institutions; to obtain information on how and where to volunteer, how to participate in campaigns and concrete activities, how to benefit from training courses and receive informations on volunteer initiatives are some more specific objectives.
For these organizations, involved in projects to help other countries, in particular in the third world, through education and development, exchanges, partnerships, work camps, urgent actions, etc, the access to support services in management and specialised training and the opportunity to call on volunteers and the society at large are essential.
This area has greatly developed in recent years, as a result of an increased public awareness on the North South issues.
The catalan civil society has always been willing to get involved in the activities of the organisations in this direction. 3interCAT aims to be the promotor and spokesperson of these initiatives to increase the international presence of Catalonia, in a process of normalization of its international image.
