Migrations, identified as a priority issue in the Catalan human rights barometer will receive special attention this year as the High Level segment of the United Nations General Assembly, on 14 and 15 September 2006 in New York will be devoted to Migrations and Development.

On 4th May, the preparatory meeting taking place in the Institute of Mediterranean Studies in Barcelona will be oponed to the public with a round-table on the situation of migration at the European and American borders. On 5 May. A press conference will present the results of the meeting supported by the Secretariat for migrations of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

El II World Social Migrations Forum will gather more than 800 participants from all continents. It already has the support of important personalities such as the writer Eduardo Galeano, and the sociologists François Houtart and Jean Ziegler.
