Music: A catalan musician receives 52nd Maria Canals International Contest
An international contest has been organized by a catalan association in
Barcelona for the last 52 years. This year 113 participants from 30 different countries, 9 of them from entered the contest. The first prize was awarded to the catalan José Enrique Bagueria. This was the first time in 40 years that a a national of Spain won the award.
In the Palau de la Musica, built by Domènech i Montaner and a symbol of Barcelona's modernism (modernism has more than Gaudí's name in Catalonia) the Symphonic Orquestra of Vallès directed by Salvador Brotons, accompanied the three finalists of the 52nd edition of the Maria Canals contest: Jose Enrique Bagueria (Spain) Marie Verneulin (France) and Mi-Yeon I (New Zealand) interpreted Liszt, Ravel and Beethoven concerts.
