Forum on the application of New Technologies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The organisation CAENTIC (Support Centre for the teaching of New Technologies in information and communications), is a NGO of the Democratic Republic of the Congo that promotes the application of the ICT (information and communication technologies) in the field of education in the DRC. With the object of generating discussion on the new technologies in the DRC, CAENTIC and Iwith.org have opened a discussion forum on the 3intercat Campus. You can take part as well!

The CAENTIC organisation is an NGO of the Democratic Republic of the Congo that came into being thanks to the initiative of the missionaries of the Sacred Heart after an investigation into the use of  information technology in the schools of Kinshasa, instigated by the priest, Olivier Misimi, a senior computer maintenance technician.

Following a study into the spread of ICTs throughout the country, it was seen that the situation was not encouraging: knowledge is scarce and the opportunities for accessing the technology very limited. In addition, it has to be said, there is a cultural barrier as regards the abundance of neologisms, the recourse to anglicisms, to metaphors such as “window”, “mouse” and the medical lexicon such as “virus threat”.

The NGO decided to remedy this lack with a 3 month seminar workshop on the need and strategy for the integration of the new information and communications technologies at all levels of education in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The CAENTIC courses include office automation, maintenance and programming. There is also a website devoted to lectures. On learning of this initiative Iwith.org opened a chat room for CAENTIC on the 3intercat campus.  This community has become the workshop discussion forum. Every day new people register and you too can register.
