Teacher Training and Development for Peace-building in the Horn of Africa

Arigatou International Geneva is collaborating with UNESCO-International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA) in the implementation of the “Teacher Training and Development for Peace-building” project, which aims to contribute to the provision of economically productive and peace-loving young people through quality teacher training and development. The project engages several countries of the Horn of Africa including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda and aims to reach 8,000 educators in the region.

Sharing Good Practices in the III Scholas Chairs International Congress in Jerusalem

Arigatou International was invited to the III Scholas Chairs International Congress which took place in Jerusalem, Israel from 2 to 5 July 2017, bringing together academics from the Scholas Chairs program, diplomats, religious authorities and governments to promote cooperation and learning based on the idea of education as one of the main tools for social change. In addition, 50 youth from five continents representing the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths, joined the academics in the debates as a way to emphasize their key role in the renewal of education.

Within the framework of the 2030 Education Agenda, the UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa, with the support of the Government of Japan, organized a regional technical workshop titled "Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED): Transforming and Sustaining Our World Through Learning". The workshop aimed to support member states unpacking the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7 in their national policies and practices.

Arigatou International Geneva participated in the Annual Conference of the International Association for Intercultural Education (IAIE) under the theme: Education Theory and Practice in Challenging Times: Cultivating an Ethos of Social Justice, Respect, and Diversity.

The conference, held from 12 to 16 June 2017, took place in Angers, France and was organized by Université Catholique de l'Ouest in collaboration with IAIE and the support of the Korean Association for Multicultural Education.

Arigatou International Geneva was invited to participate in a series of discussions to re-examine the mission of education and the meaning of learning in an uncertain world during the Oxford Symposium in Comparative and International Education (OXSCIE).

OXSCIE 2017 took place on from 8 to 9 June in Oxford University, UK and was organized by the Department of Education and St. Antony's College, in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation and the Global Centre for Pluralism.
