Inclusive Business with service providers

Inclusive Business with service providers

An SNV working group in the sectors of biofuels, Inclusive Business and education have developed a project with a company whose key activity is developing energy projects. Low-income communities will provide services to this company for the development of biofuels.

This proposal envisages the use on the part of the company of 10,684 hectares of fallow land set aside for the cultivation of sugar cane used to produce automotive ethanol. The company has anticipated that 90 agricultural workers coming from the low-income sector will be employed in growing the sugar cane, benefiting from a tailored curricular programme. For this, a Higher Technological Institute has been identified to help SNV develop the proposed curricular programme. At this stage of the proposal, it is envisaged that services will be contracted to micro- and small-sized enterprises at the construction stage in addition to production and the commercial link-up phase.

SNV has advised a multinational company on creating an enterprise strategy directed towards satisfying the daily nutrition and hygiene needs for communities with limited resources.

The enterprise strategy proposed by SNV will allow the generation of employment and improve the income of people at the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) in Central America in line with SNV objectives, as well as satisfying the basic needs of low-income communities. The programme has much potential, and represents a good opportunity for replication and up-scaling at regional level.

SNV launches Social Investment Fund

SNV launches Social Investment Fund

The iVentures investment fund that will launch operations next year will promote economic inclusion through the development of Base of the Pyramid (BoP) capacities to implement successful Inclusive Businesses (IB).

An important business strategy when incorporating the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) within company value chains is to build capacity in the low-income sector. To achieve this objective, SNV has designed the iVentures investment fund as a mechanism through which to create financial incentives that allow financing for the development of local capacities, so that the BoP can establish sustainable commercial relationships with businesses.
