Ali, (GNRC) , Maria Lucia Uribe (Ethics Education) and Fred Nyabera (end Child Poverty) lauded the establishment of the SDGs Academy for Children as safe spaces for children not only to contribute to achievement of the SDGs but also as great spaces for meaningful children participation. It was also noted that the work of the Academy was well within the 10 Panama commitments (GNRC 5th forum; 2017) as well as the Arigatou International ethos in general. Fred Nyabera also took this opportunity to remind participants that this launch was part of the commemoration of ECP@10 and IDEP as well.
While welcoming the launch of the Academy, Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, President of Sarvodaya Movement noted that children and young generation were the leaders for Sustainable society and sustainable future. And with the launch of the SDG model classroom in Sri Lanka, it would be a wonderful opportunity for all children to learn on SDGs”.

Globally, nearly 1 billion children are affected by multidimensional poverty.
This means that almost half of the world’s population of children lack basic necessities such as nutritious food, clean water, a safe home, or even healthcare. This multidimensional poverty robs children of their dignity and creates an increased risk of erosion of their rights. In every society currently, children face the adverse impacts of socioeconomic inequalities and corruption. Climate change and environmental degradation are rampant, and violent conflicts and violence against children are on the rise.
Now, more than ever, communities need to rally together to alleviate these underlying causes of child poverty.
The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP), marked annually on October 17th, presents a timely opportunity for us all to rally concerted efforts aimed at ending child poverty. It enables individuals and communities to renew commitments to promoting children’s rights and overall well-being.
This year’s IDEP, October 17th, 2022, is guided by the universal theme “Dignity for All in Practice: The Commitments We Make Together for Social Justice, Peace and Planet.”
To commemorate IDEP, Arigatou International—End Child Poverty, together with our partners and many others, will make pledges for action through our ECP@10 Campaign. We will mobilize communities to plant 1 million trees, create safe spaces to listen to children, and meaningfully involve children in actions to alleviate poverty. The campaign will enable us to jointly amplify awareness, relevant advocacy, and community actions empowering children and helping them overcome poverty.
As we begin the countdown to this year’s IDEP, October 17th, 2022, we welcome you to join us in the ECP@10 Campaign, commemorating 10 years of action towards overcoming child poverty.
Find out more about how you can participate in ECP@10 campaign, here.
