Today’s the day to celebrate everyone’s favorite mathematical constant! The ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, pi has been calculated to over a trillion digits and continues indefinitely without repetition or any pattern. But we often round it to 3.14, so today, March 14th, is Pi Day. Hope you’re all having a great one so far. If you haven’t planned out your Pi Day celebration just yet, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. There are lots of ways to get more math in your life.

STEM disciplines – science, technology, engineering, and math – are some of the hottest topics in education and careers today. STEM advocates encourage investing resources and attention into these fields and work to expand the capacity and diversity of the STEM work force.

Great Minds in STEM in California recognizes Hispanic excellence in STEM and recruits college students and job seekers to move into these fields.  Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, the Latino STEM Alliance is working with urban youth to create a pathway into STEM careers, and Colorado MESA has been doing the same for thirty years for minorities statewide.

Girls and women are underrepresented in these fields, but bunch of great organizations are working to change that, and they need your help. GetMagic is looking for mentors to work with girls interested in computer science in San Jose.  If you’re in Brooklyn, volunteer as a Program Director at STEM from Dance to use dance to encourage minority high school girls to pursue STEM careers. And Science Club for Girls in Cambridge is seeking a volunteer event coordinator, science mentors, and they’re hiring a senior director of programs.

Or inspire future generations to discover the wonder of pi by becoming a math teacher. From Cleveland to Vegas to Memphis, wherever you are, there’s an opportunity to be the first to tell someone about pi.

And, of course, there’s no reason not to indulge in a little actual pie on Pi Day. Pie Ranch works to create a new generation of farmers, educators, entrepreneurs and advocates who can work together build a healthy, sustainable and inclusive food system. Their small business development program equips adults with barriers to employment with baking skills and other training to help them to obtain and maintain financial self-sufficiency.

Help build a better future by investing in education and capacity building today. Channel your love of pi by mentoring girls in the sciences, advancing minorities in STEM careers, or teaching math to middle schoolers.
