Born in Buenos Aires, from jewish migrants of a russian origin, Barenboim founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra with the palestinian writer Edward Said in 1999, a music workshop with young musicians from Egypt, Syria, Lenanon, Jordan, Tunisia and Israel, a brigde through the conflict that opposes their communities.
