The entry into force last July of a protocol of intervention initiated by the Catalan Government in this area has allowed to prevent much more cases than in the past with an average of 40 cases per year.

This Protocol provides for permanent contacts with families from 26 ountries of Africa and Asia that still practice FGM in order to detect the risks for girls to be taken home to perform FGM.
