From 7 october 2009 on, after six years of existence the catalan xarxanet.org project is starting a new phase. The new xarxanet.org was reborn with a brand new technologic platform, as well as a new design and the incorporation of tools 2.0 to guarantee the user's participation.
The webpage was born in july 2003 by the initiative of the Generalitat de Cataluña (the Catalan Regional Government) and it is run by more than 10 entities with good reputation in the different areas of the catalan volunteering. During the last years the webpage has turned into a reference virtual platform of support and information about the catalan volunteering.
Updating the platform
The design of the new webpage, which was based on the content manager, Drupal, a free software, is persecuting various objectives that will transform the project from a technological point of view. This way, the new xarxanet.org guarantees a high accessibility of information for disabled people and so has achieved the double-A level of accessibility.
Moreover, the webpage is designed with the aim of making it easier and faster for users to find what they are looking for. For this reason the stucture of contents has been modified and a semantic organization mode was incorporated.
A lot more than a platform
The changes that can be seen on xarxanet.org since 7 october are going beyond a simple technological platform. The project is resolutely aiming the social nets and has extended its activity to communities like
Facebook, Twitter and Flickr and has opened a television channel on Youtube.
The new contents to be made on the page will be influenced by the 2.0 web, such as by the possibility of attaching videos and sharing information on more than 12 social nets in an easy and quick way.
Another significant change that the users will find on the site is that it is becoming more interactive. All users will have the possibility of commenting news, valuing resources of knowledge (useful contents mostly to improve the management of entities) and of publish events in the agenda. Concerning the different entities, those who wish to registrate will be able to do it as collaborating entities and so to publish news and events on their own.
Iwith.org has also collaborated with the new webpage: we manage contents of the international page and we have contributed our expertise for the concept of the new project.
